Music

I have been meeting with a lot of musicians ever since i moved to Irvine (about 4 months now) and the common refrain seems to be “what happened to music ?” It used to be the most beautiful and exciting thing happening to us and then when the adrenalin of youth has worn off so has the joy of music. I was lucky to discover the Mohan Veena and Ragas, it has kept my love for music alive.  Sadly, there are many of us musicians who have lost the joy of music and it has become as mundane as any other profession…… my friends, if you don’t enjoy what you are doing, neither will your audience. So then, the secret of making great music just becomes “Having fun”.  The other thing that has kept music fresh for me has been to “Improvise”.  There is liberation in creation and when we spontaneously create we experience the joy of freedom and freedom is lots of fun.
